2018 Neighborhood Cleanup Success!!

What a wonderful Neighborhood Cleanup Event we had on Saturday May 5th!

More than 40 community members showed up to help unload vehicles, break down items for recycling, manage traffic, and make our community cleaner. We got to meet and connect with our neighbors and learn some new things through the experience. We received more than 150 car and truck loads of stuff and saved those community members hundreds of dollars. And, we raised a few hundred dollars (estimated) for each of Foster-Powell and Mt. Scott-Arleta Neighborhood Associations.

I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all the folks who volunteered their time on a Saturday and on the days leading up to the event. You. Kicked. Butt.

It was hot, and it was humid and you pushed through it all with a smile. NOT ONLY THAT, but many of you stayed late! After a day starting at 9 am, many of you stuck around well after our posted closing time of 2:30 pm so that we could serve the remaining cars in line. It took us until around 4 pm to complete everything, so you basically worked a full day for your neighbors. WOW! That is impressive. You guys went above and beyond, and it made me proud to be part of this community.

YOU make our community stronger. Thank you. Hope to see you at next year’s cleanup and at all of the neighborhood association meetings in between. 😉

Here Come the Elections!

Elections notice

Exhausted from the last national election? Elections don’t need to be that painful. Consider participating – and even joining the MSANA board by volunteering for a position. If you’re interested in knowing what’s required to become a board member, check out the Bylaws – Article VI, Sec. 2. And wow, are elections fun!

Do you like to smash? Does shattering household items provide you with a deep sense of satisfaction?

Well, now you can smash and shatter for your neighborhood! In fact, your neighborhood NEEDS you to smash and shatter…and throw and stomp and crush at the Neighborhood Cleanup!
The Mt. Scott-Arleta and Foster-Powell Neighborhood Associations will host our joint annual cleanup event on May 5th, and we need 50 volunteers to help unload cars, throw household items, and smash stuff to fit it in the bins.

If you’d rather repair, repurpose, and reuse, well, we need you too! The cleanup isn’t just about sending bins full of garbage to the dump. It’s also about finding the treasure in the trash, and volunteering means you get first pick of all of that beautiful treasure.
Volunteers also get to deliver a load of trash for FREE. And they get fed. Last year we had tons of Henry Higgins bagels, Arleta Library Cafe pastries and coffee, sandwiches, chips, and a bunch of other stuff. This year will be even better.

Food, free stuff, and smashing for your hood. Does volunteering get any better than this?
Date: May 5th, 2018
Time: 9:00am – 2:30pm
Location: Arleta School, SE 66th and Mitchell
Click here to volunteer, and we’ll send you a couple updates and reminders along the way and see you on May 5th!

Proposal to Amend Bylaws

At our meeting in March, we discussed amending the Bylaws in order to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Allow residents to be elected to the association board after attending a  minimum of 2 meetings (decreased from 4) in the previous 12 months
  • Require a review of the bylaws annually
  • Clean up grammar and formatting issues

The attached document is the new version of the bylaws to be proposed for a vote at MSANA’s next general meeting, on April 4, 2018 at 6:30 pm at the Mt. Scott Community Center at. Let this post serve as the fulfillment of Article XIV of the current bylaws, which states:

All amendments to these bylaws must be proposed in writing and submitted to members at least seven (7) days before voting on their adoption may proceed. Notice of a proposal to amend the bylaws, specifying the date, time and place for consideration, must be provided to all members at least seven (7) days before voting. Adoption of and amendments to these bylaws shall require a two-thirds (2/3) vote by the members present at a general meeting.
