Renter’s Rights 101

Congratulations to Mt. Scott – Arleta Neighborhood Association for securing a small neighborhoods grant from SEUL (Southeast Uplift) and the Office of Community and Civic Life. The grant will be used toward a much-needed Renter’s Rights Training:

In conjunction with CAT (Community Alliance of Tenants) the MSANA will present a 2-hour training to help community members understand how to become better equipped at locating, securing and retaining affordable and adequate housing. Using an accessible, public location, we will offer free food, childcare and translation services to encourage attendance by communities that need this training most. Please see details below.

Can you help the neighborhood on Sept. 29?

If you’ve ever walked, biked, skateboarded or driven past SE 72^nd & Woodstock Boulevard, you’ve seen the Arleta Triangle. Lots of folks see it every day and don’t know that it’s a project of your Mt. Scott-Arleta Neighborhood Association.

Volunteers give a few hours to maintain the space every month. From planting native plants, to picking up litter, to big projects — it’s all done by our neighbors.

But we’re going to need a LOT of neighbors on Sept. 29^th to accomplish our biggest project yet – installing a new brick patio in the center of the space. Volunteers will be needed to move blocks, set the blocks, and make sure everything is level.

If you can help, sign up now on our Facebook event. We’re going to need at least 20 volunteers committed to get the project done. We’ll provide coffee, snacks, and a Mt. Litter and Graffiti Clean-Up

MSANA Graffiti Clean-up Join your neighbors in a day of service painting over graffiti and picking up litter on 82nd – our Avenue of Roses!

Meet the Mt. Scott-Arleta team at 7738 SE Ellis St to pick up supplies, get trained, and have some morning snacks before heading to 82nd and Foster, where we’ll change the stretch from Foster Road to Duke Street from messy to marvelous.

Following the clean-up, we’ll meet fellow teams from Brentwood-Darlington, Foster-Powell & Lents for a thank-you lunch at one of our neighborhood parks.

2018 Neighborhood Cleanup Success!!

What a wonderful Neighborhood Cleanup Event we had on Saturday May 5th!

More than 40 community members showed up to help unload vehicles, break down items for recycling, manage traffic, and make our community cleaner. We got to meet and connect with our neighbors and learn some new things through the experience. We received more than 150 car and truck loads of stuff and saved those community members hundreds of dollars. And, we raised a few hundred dollars (estimated) for each of Foster-Powell and Mt. Scott-Arleta Neighborhood Associations.

I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to all the folks who volunteered their time on a Saturday and on the days leading up to the event. You. Kicked. Butt.

It was hot, and it was humid and you pushed through it all with a smile. NOT ONLY THAT, but many of you stayed late! After a day starting at 9 am, many of you stuck around well after our posted closing time of 2:30 pm so that we could serve the remaining cars in line. It took us until around 4 pm to complete everything, so you basically worked a full day for your neighbors. WOW! That is impressive. You guys went above and beyond, and it made me proud to be part of this community.

YOU make our community stronger. Thank you. Hope to see you at next year’s cleanup and at all of the neighborhood association meetings in between. 😉
